Happy Holidays from The Sod Guy!
We want to thank you for your business in the past and in the future. We hope you are with your friends and family or will be soon. We hope 2024 is your best year ever!
Winter—it’s the time of year that revolves around peppermint mochas, playing in the snow, warm sweaters, scarves and boots and celebration of the season. This is an extra-cozy period that consists of small comforts such as thick blankets, hot drinks and knit hats. It is dark. It is cold. It is magical. We hope you have a wonderful winter filled with family and friends. See our newsletter below, to obtain seasonal information, helpful hints, and maintenance instructions for the winter season.

Winter FAQ’s
Do I need to water my lawn during the winter??
If you’ve been here in Colorado long enough you already know you never know what kind of winter we’re going to have. The winter is starting off very warm so it’s important to know how to take care of your lawn during a dry warm winter.
Winter watering is important for new lawns but is also beneficial for established lawns as well. Most people have already winterized their sprinkler system and really don’t want to think about lawn maintenance this time of year. However, if you have a new lawn, it is important to do some winter watering during these dry hot winter days to give your lawn a better chance of thriving in the spring.
This may mean you need to drag a hose to accomplish this if your sprinkler system is already winterized. If it has been dry and warm enough where the ground has not frozen and the grass is still growing, giving your lawn some water a couple times a week will be beneficial.
Once we have had enough freezing nights where the ground is frozen but there has not been any moisture, once every couple of weeks should be ok and you don’t have to water too long since it will not absorb into the ground since it is frozen. Water early in the day to allow the water to absorb into the top of the lawn throughout the day and prevent freezing.
Winter Reminders

The first day of winter is Thursday, December 21, 2023.
The first day of winter occurs on the winter solstice, the astronomical first day of winter. This year, the solstice will be at 10:27 p.m. EST. The winter solstice marks the shortest day of sunlight of the entire year.

If you are needing a spring project completed, remember to call us early to get on our early spring schedule. Remember the early bird gets the worm.
