Spring is here!!

We smile as we watch as the lawn turns greener by the day and flowers sprout beautiful spring colors. Spring is the time to start planning your yard projects. Our newsletter will provide some seasonal information for you as well as helpful hints and tips for the care and maintenance of your lawn for the season. We’re Cutting Sod

We have started cutting sod and it is looking good. Place your orders for Pickup, Delivery or Installation. We start installing sod the week of April 14th. There is still plenty of time to get on our schedule earlier rather than later. Give us a call we’ll be glad to help you out.

Introducing a New Manager in the Parker location

Jack Hughes is now managing the Parker location. The Sod Guy is a family owned company started by Kurt and Angie Hughes in 2002. Jack is the son of Kurt and Angie and has begun his time in the family business. Jack is dedicated to the same level of service everybody has come accustomed to and has been a great add to the overall team. Stop in and introduce yourself if you haven’t already met Jack.

Tall Fescue NOW AVAILABLE

We’d like to introduce a new sod we are offering. Tall Fescue is now available. In an ongoing effort to round out our product offering that is in line with the Water Wise movement in Colorado we have decided to carry Tall Fescue as an option. Tall Fescue is good for shadier areas and is a good drought tolerant and lower water requirement option. The sod is a great alternative for water conscious property owners but don’t want to compromise appearance and performance.

DOG TUFF™ STILL AVAILABLE

Last year we introduced Dog Tuff. Dog Tuff is a low water low mow Bermuda Grass. This product is only available in plugs at the moment and gets its name because it is a durable grass that holds up to both dog traffic and urine. It also complies with the Water Wise movement requirements of reducing water for lawns. Call us today to ask about Dog Tuff. We’ll be glad to answer any questions you may have.

The Sod Guy Services

As you may or may not know, The Sod Guy offers services for the following:

• Sod available for Pickup at our two locations (Colorado Springs and Parker)
• Delivery as far south as Pueblo and North to Fort Collins
• Full Installation services which include Tear Out (Removal of old grass/mulch/weeds), Soil Amendment and Preparation using 4 yards/1000sf of area and Installation for the same areas.
• We also offer Tear Out, and Soil Preparation Only if needed

Spring is one of the Best Times to Install Sod

It’s warming up and giving everybody the urge to get outside and start their outdoor projects. If you’re considering sod, Spring is one of the best times to lay sod because it is still a little cooler and you can benefit from the Spring rain showers to help establish and keep your new sod healthy. If you are a do it yourself person don’t forget to study up on how to amend and prepare your soil before installing sod. The soil amendment and preparation is the most important part of the installation process. The soils here in Colorado are either a hard compacted clay, very sandy, or a combination of the two and neither of which does well with water. Therefore, the soil must be amended with a good organic compost by rototilling it into the existing soil 4-6 inches deep prior to installing the new sod. If this is done correctly you will conserve a lot more water in the long run since the soil will now utilize the water much more efficiently.
