Dog Tuff grass is an excellent water wise option in Colorado because it is VERY drought tolerant and loves full, hot sun. It also grows happily on dry slopes, doesn’t wear thin in winter weather, recovers from excessive foot traffic quickly and is great for Xeriscape projects where less water is a priority.

Dog Tuff is a Bermuda Grass Blend that stands up to drought, full sun, dogs and daily wear and tear.  It is a low-water and low-maintenance grass that only grows to about 3”-4” high.  So if you don’t mind the lawn a little long, your mowing maintenance will be very low. But if you prefer your grass shorter, you can mow ½” at a time which minimizes the risk of scalping the grass and making it susceptible to sunburn. Watering will only be required 1-3 times a month which is significantly lower than your traditional turf grasses.

Why is it called Dog Tuff grass? 

Dogs can be especially hard on grass here in Colorado.  Because it recovers quickly, Dog Tuff grass is great for yards with dogs and it is also very resistant to dog urine.
